Xiliang is frequently invaded by the Huns. Crown Prince Wei Jianhun fails in his sneak attack against the enemy’s camp and flees with a wound. He is rescued by a village girl called Bai Lixiang. The two fall in love and get married. Later the king of Xiliang has Jianhun propose to Princess Coral of Eastern Qi so that she will help them repel the Huns. Since Lixiang is already pregnant, her brother Zhicheng offers himself as substitute for Jianhun in the hope of fooling the princess. Lixiang and Jianhun promise to reunite when the swallows return in the spring of the next year.
Unfortunately, the princess finds out the true identity of Zhicheng and refuses to send any troops unlessJianhun leaves Lixiang. The princess lies to Lixiang, takes away her baby, and abandons it. General Cai Xiongfeng of Eastern Qi is ordered to kill Lixiang. Fortunately, learning about the princess’s evil plan, he helps Lixiang and brings her back to his country. Zhicheng happens to find Lixiang’s baby. Xiliang and Eastern Qi deal a crushing defeat to the Huns, and Jianhun is forced to marry the princess. In the palace,Lixiang tells how she was deceived by the princess and lost her son, and a maid of honor testifies to her words. Finally Lixiang, Jianhun, and their son are reunited. The princess admits to her misdeeds and marries the general.
